Teen Parenting Outreach

Breaking News: Ronald Tomalis nominated for Education Secretary

Corbett names Ronald Tomalis as Secretary of Education
Gov.-elect Tom Corbett today announced that he intends to nominate Ronald J. Tomalis, 48, of Clarksville, Md., as Secretary of Education.


Tomalis is currently Director at Dutko Worldwide/Whiteboard Advisors, where he is the principle adviser to numerous nonprofit education groups and foundations, along with for-profit education related companies. In this position, Tomalis also works with local, state and federal education officials and organizations to develop and execute initiatives related to education reform.  Read More >
Gov.-elect Corbett names key posts
This week Gov.-elect Tom Corbett has added to his new team, nominating Eli Avila as Secretary of Health and Sheri Phillips as Secretary of General Services. He also named William F. Ward as Chief of Staff and Karen Gunnison as the First Lady’s Chief of Staff. Read More >
FDA Proposes Graphic Health Warnings for Cigarette Packages and Advertisements
It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, and that is the aim of the FDA, to use graphic warnings, such as the one above to send strong warnings on the dangers of smoking. This is just one of the proposed color graphics that will be required to cover 50% of the front and back of cigarette packages and 20% of any cigarette advertisement. Read More >
Alcohol Energy Drink Ban
Following the nationwide FDA ban on all alcohol energy drinks, David L. Rosenbloom (professor at the Boston University School of Public Health and director of Join Together, an addiction research and policy program), said in a Letter to the Editor published in The New York Times, “The Food and Drug Administration’s action to remove caffeine and other stimulants from sweetened high-alcohol beverages and the Federal Trade Commission’s warnings on deceptive advertising of these products are important first steps in addressing the major health and public safety problems created by these products.”  Read More >
